Skövde city museum was re-opened in an old textile factory in Norrmalm, just outside the city centre, in 2005. Since the museum's start in 1946 it had been located in the old town hall on Hertig Johan's square, but moved in 2003 to the museum's storage facilities. The new museum has an area of 1800 square meters and holds archives, collections and exhibition grounds. The museum has a permanent exhibition of 375 square meters "Skövde - the town of Elin". It illustrates the town's growth and show samples of the museums rich collections.
Skövde city museum also takes care of Helénstugan, the oldest house in the town and the only remaining building from the time before the Skövde fire in 1759. The house was probably built in the beginning fo the eighteenth century. Helénstugan is in Helénsparken in the centre of Skövde and is open in the summer months as well as on special occations around the year. We can also show the house at other times, on request.
